DCPP vs DCPLA vs DCDPO: which certification is right for you?

The three tracks are designed for different starting points, not different levels of seriousness — each is a real, DSCI-credentialed certification in its own right.

DCPP (Data Protection and Privacy Practitioner) is the right starting point if you’re early in your career, or moving into privacy/compliance from an adjacent field like IT governance or general legal support. It covers DPDP Act fundamentals, consent management, and breach-response basics.

DCPLA (Data Protection and Privacy Law Associate) is built for lawyers and legal professionals who need to advise on the Act’s legal framework specifically — cross-border transfer rules, Data Protection Board procedures, and compliance risk advisory.

DCDPO (Data Protection Officer) is the flagship track, aimed at professionals ready to own an organisation’s entire DPDP programme — grievance handling, DPIAs, breach notification, and vendor risk, end to end. Many DCDPO candidates come in having already completed DCPP.
